''Omg another thread like this piss off'' ''Yeah ok we heard enough'' Before any of you write something like that, let me elaborate. I'm going to review my experience on Cold from MY POINT OF VIEW. Yes, it could be biased, yes you could not agree, yes this review could be bad. If you disagree with me, then oh well, sucks for you. I'm going to focus on 5 points, those being: Community, is it worth being part of the community? Game modes, do they get repetitive? Are they well-made? Staff team, are they ready to help you? Do they care? Management, is everything managed properly? The past, present and the future, do they learn from their past mistakes? Is Cold on the right path? **TRIGGER WARNING** I will state my opinions a lot. If you're going to act like a complete knobhead and ruin this thread, piss off. The Community. Some may disagree, but this is the best part of Cold for me. The community on this server is something that I've never seen before. This community just has a whole different vibe to it. You could consider it toxic or just funny, but many people can't disconnect from this community for that exact reason. Yes, there are some bad apples within the community and they should've been taken care of ages ago, but it's not like they ruin the whole Cold experience for you. It's still nice to browse around the network simply talking to people. A lot of people have things in common here, even the smallest things. People will piss you off, believe me on that. It could be out of someone's shear stupidity, someone being a knobhead for no reason, defman or because you just see someone you don't like. I've face-palmed myself so many times whenever I read people's responses to threads or their messages on Discord. However it will also give you good times. If you find the right people, you'll have one hell of an experience. Beware of people here, especially one's you don't trust. Certain individuals will make new accounts and portray themselves as different people, or they simply promise they've ''changed'' when they never have. Well, drama happens at least once every two days. This is by far the drama land of Minecraft. This community is one to be a part of. However, it's either a hit or miss. It's a very weird community to join at first, so the chances of you not liking this community is rather large. However, you leaving this community after getting attached to it is hard. After being part of this community for just over two years, I've seen it change a lot and yet it never really lost the ambiance it always had. I've been trying to leave this place so many times simply out of frustration, yet I'm still here. Cold's community will always be close to my heart. One of the best, yet also one of the weirdest communities I've ever witnessed. The Game Modes. The game modes are dope. No really, they may not be high quality like Hypixel's, but they still are very good. I don't see a lot of complains regarding major bugs. I have no idea if minor bugs are being fixed frequently, but I don't see players mentioning the same bugs anywhere. The game modes are all fun to play and easy to learn. You don't have a lot of choice when it comes to the game modes though. You have your standard PvP game modes like practice, kitmap and HCF and then your non-pvp which is Skyblock. I would like to see some more variety in the game modes so players have more things to play. Not every game mode is going to work out and there will be game modes crossed off the list, but until you actually try and add new things, you will never find things that work. It could take 5 failed game modes until you finally find the one people will like. That's also something about Cold I've noticed. A few months back, whenever HCF didn't work out, they would release an identical version of HCF a few days later. The same went for kitmap. Basically, they committed the same mistakes yet expected different results. Lately this has been changing and I'm proud of that. With the addition of Speed HCF I can finally see some change within the server. It's hard to notice those changes over short amount of time, however if you backtrack a few months you'll see how much the server has changed. I'll now speak about all the server individually. Practice. Practice is exactly like the name suggests, a place to polish your PvP skills. Practice had a few tough releases when it wasn't as good as it was before the reset. You'll also see a lot of hackers as the anti-cheat isn't the best and there aren't sufficient staff to keep hackers away 24/7. However if you ignore the hackers, practice is a very good game mode in it's own right. Kitmap. My favorite game mode, simply because it's fast-paced, fun and competitive. I love that they put HCF and kitpvp together to create this... absolute monstrosity. Kitmap has been lacking when it comes to quality of resets as it's gotten really repetitive. Kitmap has always enough players to entertain yourself, as most of the players hang around the spawn anyway. Beware for archers, their fire arrows aren't fun at all. HCF. Currently known as Speed HCF, HCF is either dead or alive, there is no in-between. If HCF isn't done properly, it won't work. You could compare factions to HCF, but it's way different. It's not as intense around the clock like factions, but when you see a 5 man faction running at you, you better run. HCF had many bad releases, like a lot. I don't think HCF has had a good season in the past few months (not going to include speed as it just came out.) Skyblock. Fun, relaxing and friendly community. The Skyblock community is way different from the PvP community (could be a good thing.) You won't see the same non-sense you see on PvP servers. Skyblock is well managed and reset frequently. It's a good experience and I definitely advice going on Skyblock. The Staff Team. Spoiler: Read before going on. Yes, the staff team that we all love and adore. Before I start, I want you to understand that staff are humans. Staff won't always be there for you and you shouldn't rely on staff all the time. Yes, fighting against a hacker is tiring, but there are always to things you can do. One, you record and report the hacker. Two, you whine in Discord asking for a staff member to come online. You see, blaming everything on the staff team is worthless. At the end of the day, all their work is voluntary. Let's imagine, all staff members decide to leave the staff team because of the pressure received from the community, what would you do? What would you if everyone started calling you names because you made a mistake, because you weren't online at 3am to help a player out, because you aren't online at least 12 hours a day. Staff have to go through this everyday. Now, the staff team. This staff team is at a hard spot right now, however it's been way worse before. The staff team is also really small for the size of the server. The current staff team has 17 volunteers and the server has around 300 players in its peak hours. What many don't realize is that you need applicants to improve the size and quality of the staff. If no one good applies, no good staff are going to appear. Now see, there could be many reasons as to why people aren't applying. That could be because new players aren't joining who have the potential to be excellent staff or because the staff team simply isn't attractive to applicants. Whenever you have a staff team you need to think about the future as well. But are the current staff useful? Personally, I say no. There have been quite a few cases where players who ask for help are completely ignored or told no because staff don't feel like helping. Now see, I find that you should always be ready to help players in need. The staff team should have expectations from staff and all of them should be met. Staff should never NOT HELP a player, staff should always be mature and professional in public chats (of course banter is always accepted.) There are many staff that simply misbehave but I know they won't be demoted because of the lack of applicants. This is exactly why the staff team is in a tight spot. The staff team simply isn't attractive because some of the current staff are immature children but they won't be demoted because no one new is applying. The lack of applicants has turned into re-using old staff members. Old staff members that haven't even been gone for a month or two have to come back because no one else is joining the staff team (Take Moni for example). This is a cycle that has to be broken for the staff team to grow. The staff managers need to find a formula that works. But do staff really care though? Are the current staff part of the staff team to help out the server and community, or just to be staff? For many It's the second. Many staff members simply don't care at all. They're in the staff team either because they have to, otherwise the team will die, or because the staff team is at a point where it NEEDS players to become staff, even if they aren't qualified for the job. If non-motivated staff join the team, then who is supposed to motivate the team? Why should the motivated staff still care if the one's that don't care aren't being treated the same as the motivated one's? You could disagree with me, but you should see where I'm coming from. The Management. I'm first going to talk about the work done by @Nick_0251 and @Pengurino. When Pengu wasn't co-owner, I saw that Cold was struggling. As if Nick couldn't handle the network alone (and that's nothing to be ashamed of, it's actually good seeing two owners being able to work together this well.) When Pengu came back, it felt as if Cold changed really fast. The network looked way more organized. Now, the network is at a very good state and I think they're doing a fantastic job. However, I'd appreciate it if they overlooked how the staff team and community are doing. Nick and Pengu have the absolute power and I'd like them to say something about how things in the staff team are done. It feels like there is too much instability within the staff team and many things aren't clear. Corruption and favoritism is still a common thing within the team and the owners have to prevent that stuff. Nick and Pengu could also invest some money in advertisement, like proper advertisement. So many issues could be fixed if money is invested in advertisement. New players join the community, player base is going to grow, new future applicants, more donations. There will be more donations, because the server isn't half-bad. It's a very good server that should be polished a bit. So many doors will open with advertisement and you got to see that. Baum, as the manager he is doing a decent job. He is humble and it shows. I think however that he should be a bit more connected to the staff team and the community. I don't see him a lot on ts3, discord nor forums so I'd like to see some change in that. Now looking at the work of the staff managers... I think that the two staff managers aren't fit for the job. Spookier who is one of the most hard working staff Cold has ever had, and Moni, one who was always seen with great potential and he reached the rank he was going for, twice. That's something I couldn't achieve and I wanted it more than him. So, why do I think they aren't the right people for the job? Spookier has a lot of experience when it comes to staffing, but he has been struggling with the staff team. He always had Xymelin's and Moni's support and it's totally fine if you are someone who needs another manager to work to your fullest, but I think Admin or Sr-Admin fits Spookier better. Do not see this as a bad thing, it's actually a very good thing. Being staff and being staff-manager are two completely different things. Spookier is someone who is better at staff work than management work. Now Moni, I always wanted this kid to reach a high rank because I knew what he was capable of. He doesn't lack skills but he certainly lacks motivation. Motivation really affects how you do your work and you can clearly see that with Moni. When he came back to be staff manager for the second time, he wasn't the same. Moni, if you know that you won't put the same amount of work like you did before, I don't think staff manager is the right position for you. Now, is everything managed properly? I would say yes, things are being done right here. Sadly, I don't see any big changes happening on Cold. It feels like the management is afraid of going out of it's comfort zone and simply wants to keep things how it worked before. This is bad. The management should take risks, yes things can go wrong, but at least you now know what works and what doesn't. I think that the way the staff team is currently managed is a bit eh, a big eh. I feel like most staff members in the staff team won't make it past 2 months. I think you can see from one's personality and behavior if they're someone who are going to stay for long, or are there simply to have more staff experience to apply on a higher server. The staff team has to be a place where everyone is willing to communicate and work together or things can go wrong as they did in the past many times. The Past, The Present and The Future. The Past I enjoyed old Cold the most, it could be bias or because the community was a bit smaller and less toxic. Bad apples have grown since then, but you got to deal with that. But as I said previously, though the community has changed, the ambiance hasn't changed. The community is still just as fun despite so many old players leaving. As someone who has been here for a long time, I'm happy to see changes within the network and community. The Present I think that soon the management will have to make a decision on how things are going to work. After these staff resign, I don't see many other players applying for staff. Things will have to change for Cold to have a remotely good future. The network is doing fine at this moment, the future seems vague to me, but I hope that things will change. I want the management to learn from the past, put the result of that in the present and work for a better future. The Future You can't guess the future, therefore I'm going to give two examples of how the future could look like. Of course on the whole spectrum of things, the chances of these happening are immensely small, but oh well. The network doesn't change and stays the way it is. This could end horribly as everyone wants change to not be bored, no one wants to play the same things 365 days a year 24/7. If nothing changes, I expect the server to die out like other servers who made the same mistake. Then you have the good future, where changes are made. Butttttttttttttttttt- I won't tell you about that. Because if I tell you, it won't happen. Long thread, probably unnecessary but nonetheless, I had fun writing this. In 2017 I would've given this server a 7,8. in 2018 a 6.6 and in 2019 a 7.5. Let's hope in the future I can give it at least an 8.
